Hello Brothers and Sisters,
I am emailing you to inform the members of a new forum to help SETC members stay in contact.
As many agree, there is a major concern for Union issues among the membership. I for one want to be more proactive about REUNITING the members of SETC. Somewhere along the way many have felt a disconnect from Board to membership. For this Union to be successful in any future endeavors we need to come together.
Simple concerns that need to be addressed will start to come to light this year.
1) We have lost close to 40% of our membership. Which also means 40% less revenue coming into our Union. Now our board will tell you that we are in a better financial situation even minus 40% revenue. Just think about in simple terms, if I paid you 40% less this year would you still survive?
2) Does our Board have a business plan for our Union? What do they expect to accomplish this year?
3) Does our board have a financial plan? What expenses do we incur each month? What revenue do we have to fight grievances? Can we sustain $60k a month in attorney fees? (This has been pretty consistent for over a year).
Let's do simple math. On average each member pays $55 a month in dues. We are floating around 1300 members. That is $71,500 a month or $858,000.00 a year.
Let's say our attorney fees go down to $40k a month without UCLA. $40k a month or $480,000.00 a year. So now we just have $378,000.00 to spend.
This last year alone we spent $126k in release time. Now we have $252k left to spend. We also spent $144k on telecommunications, lodging, rental cars, and meals. We now have $108k left for Union business. Still not including arbitrations, consulting fees, plus misc expenses.
I assume you get my point.
