Hello Brothers and Sisters,
I have talked with members from CSU Northridge and CSU Los Angeles and welcome them to this forum. I also welcome all members who are seeing this for the first time. I created this forum as a way for members from all the CSU's to keep in contact with Union business. I have heard the concerns for the state of the Union and hope this will help to open the lines of communication. This forum is only as successful as those who use it. I encourage everyone to sign up and contribute by posting any questions, comments, or information they have or want to know. I will do my best to find the answers or hope others members can fill in the blanks.
This is the opportunity for every member to have a voice in a neutral platform. I again ask that everyone act respectful and understand we are here for one reason. TO MOVE THIS UNION FORWARD!!!!
I look forward to further interaction with all the members.
Regards,
Hector Fernandez SDSU Lock Shop 619-971-2355 open for text and phone calls.

Greetings to all,
WOW!!! Where do we start, with so much to say and so much to do.
Hector, I understand you met briefly with a few of my colleagues Monday, many of them handed me your news letter and have asked me to visit your website. (by the way,GREAT IDEA)
Northridge membership is seventy-seven (77) strong in members. We are UNITED, STRONG, DIRECT and to the POINT. I'm sure there are a few SETC E-BOARD members and many TEAMSTER organizers to include Treasurer Jason Rabinowitz who would verify that claim. Point being, if we were to support you in your intended running for election, we too, Northridge, would then ask for San Diego to support our Northridge candidate Steve Housel in the running for election for the E-Board.
Hector, many of us have read your news letter, we here at Northridge voted against ratification, 46 to 14, we based our decision on the me to clause, the 4% increase and the emergency hire article, we won't get into all of that, what's done is done. However, we will say, that 4% increase, works out to 1% per year, doesn't cover the cost of living combined, and on a 4,800 salary, works out to be about 37 cents an hour for a skilled tradesmen/tradeswomen. Highly insulting!!! In our opinion , we as skilled trades men and women are worth much more than 4% over a period of four yrs as are all of you !!!
You mention Linda Chang in the news letter, well there is to much to say on this subject, which I'm sure many of our members have no idea as to what's going on there. However , in short and in part, just for your inquisitive minds, on June 8th the majority of the E-Board asked Ken Sanchez ( PRESIDENT ) to arrange a special meeting to deal with the operations of the union, particularly with the statements Linda Chang had made at the BOD meeting in April, she stated in part: if we don't stop spending money, we will be broke by October. AGAIN, I WOULD SUGGEST YOU ALL PAY A VISIT TO SETCWATCH.ORG AND DRAW YOUR OWN CONCLUSIONS.
SETC MEMBERS: WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE ?
Moving forward and building the future of SETC - UNITED, Northridge is in agreement and in favor of this movement, It would be fair to say that most members from the campuses that we have contacted are in agreement, Frank Garcia - CSU Los Angeles , Paul Nath - CSU Pomona, Marcel Bernal - CSU SanBernardino, Doug Frame - CSU Los Angeles. Strengthening our members to become a unified unit as a whole and or as one is the easy part of this movement, strengthening the membership is a completely different aspect. Mr. Chris Sprofera had the right idea, as did Northridge, in wanting to affiliate with the Teamsters. In fact, Northridge started their movement in attempting an affiliation with the Teamsters once we heard what was on the negotiating table, 4% over a period of 4 yrs and an emergency hire clause, ( what union in their right mind would think this is acceptable ) hence, increasing the strength in numbers all while Mr. Sprofera was conducting his own attempts to affiliate unbeknownced to Northridge. SETC will always be weak in the number of members, unless all twenty three universities start hiring skilled tradesmen and tradeswomen ( why should they, they have the scab contractors and the emergency hire clause ) or if they decide to build an additional twenty three campuses, HIGHLY UNLIKELY !!!! Eight hundred and fifty ( 850 ) to one thousand ( 1000 ) members is hardly a muscle. My Brothers and Sisters please first open your eyes as to what is really going on with the SETC E-BOARD, LETS TAKE OUR RIGHTS AND UNION BACK, then open your minds as to why we should consider affiliating. STRENGTH !!!!!!
Hector I have read your posting on Jan. 31, 2016, the information you have provided is not surprising to Northridge, in fact it confirms all that we have researched, from the position appointments without a general membership vote to financial records, to include the remodel of Carl Kimberlins loft at his residence to supposedly conduct union business, and the removal of Board members at a whim. SOUNDS LIKE THE GOOD OLD BOYS CLUB WITH CARL KIMBERLIN LEADING THE CHARGE!!!! We have also reviewed the PERB - UNFAIR PRACTICE CHARGE,
This information needs to get out to the general membership, the SETC E-BOARD NEEDS TO BE REBUILT from the ground up. We at Northridge have already started, we are in the process of having our steward removed from his position, we have over 70% percent of our members who are in agreement.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION :
PLEASE VISIT SETCWATCH.ORG
Sincerely
NORTHRIDGE

Hello Northridge Brothers and Sisters, I appreciate everyone taking the time to read this forum and speaking up to change this Union for the better. Where do I start, first, I agree this contract was a huge waste of our union dues. Many members were in disagreement over multiple articles that this Board altered. As mentioned, what is done is done so lets figure out how to move forward. I am more than happy to talk with Mr. Housel about ideas moving forward into elections (please have him call me 619-971-2355). You make great points as to the history of this Union and I agree where do we go from here.
I have mentioned to many people and also to the members on your campus I met with, I feel a decision on the future of SETC should be a member decision. We are a member controlled Union which many feel have not had control in 6 years. You made great points on the numbers and power that SETC is currently working with under the CSU and UC. Is there upside to a larger Union? YES and NO. Many members that have been around since the LIUNA days will speak on the negative of a large Union. All I can say is I see the positive and negative of this decision. I will support this Union as Business Manager on any decision they choose.
Just as you have talked with many members I also have reached out to other campuses. I can say the feelings are mutual on multiple campuses within the CSU. The enormous lack of communication from Carl and Ken on any matter pertaining to this Union is felt across the board. Even when faced with questions from the members they dance around the topic and for the last 4 months have blamed the Teamsters for everything. I received a letter from Carl through my Steward which laid out numerous reasons to stay SETC and not go Teamsters. The main point he tried to nail home with the members was he was always able to be reached. Well numerous members and myself are STILL WAITING FOR CALL BACKS.
This is why I decided to run for Business Manager I will stick to my word on what I promise this Union. First, and foremost I will allow the members to help in rewriting the By-Laws which have allowed the Board members to control this Union with no recourse. Second, I will work with the members to come up with a detailed and focus mission for this Union. Third, I will lay out a business and financial plan for this Union which will be open and transparent to all members. Fourth, I will use multiple resources to ensure every member is provided with information and open communication to be aware of all Union business.
This is just the start of what I have planned to move this Union forward. We need to get back to the days of being UNITED. Power does come from numbers, but the numbers have to be UNITED to prove a point. We can no longer function on the path we are currently on. So I once again thank you for the support and look forward to working together as a UNITED SETC.
